Lords Taverners

Lords Taverners Premier Competition

Wests fields a team in the Lord’s Taverners U16 Premier youth boys competition run by Queensland Cricket. For the 2018-19 season, the club will also field a team in the new MSW U17 Open competition.

The Lord's Taverner's competition operates under Premier Cricket standards. This competition provides a clear pathway for players between junior community cricket and senior premier grade competitions. The U17 Open competition will be run under MSW rules and is intended to provide a strong second-tier competition for boys not playing in the Taverner's competition but who have a desire to continue their cricket development and progress to senior competitive cricket.

Our Track Record

Wests has fielded teams in the Lords Taverners competition cricket since the competition was inaugurated in and has enjoyed substantial success.

Wests Lords Taverners Team for 2018!

Thank you all for your contribution over the last few months at both the preseason training and the official trials for selection in Wests’ Lord’s Taverners team.

I confirm that this coming season Wests will be fielding 2 x U16 teams. One team will compete in the Queensland Premier Cricket Lord’s Taverners Competition and the other in a new Div. 1 U15-U17 MSW competition. Both competitions will be played on Sundays. The Lord’s Taverners Competition commences on 9 September and runs through to 25 November (with no matches on 30 September and 4 November), followed by semi-finals on 2 December and the Grand Final on 9 December. The Div. 1 MSW competition commences on 14 October and runs through to 8 December.

Commiserations to the boys not selected and best of luck for the coming season. We had a large group of boys trialling and selections were difficult due to the high standard of the group. We hope to see those not selected in the squad back trialling for Tavs or Grade in future seasons. We encourage all boys not selected to play junior cricket this season.

Congratulations to the boys selected.

Please note the first 12 names represent the boys we currently believe will start in Tavs. The next 12 names are merely in alphabetical order. However the final Tavs team won’t be selected until the week prior to the 1st fixture on 9 September and all boys selected in the squad of 24 will be available for selection based on performance at training and trial matches over the next few weeks. Please note depending on performance the boys could move between the Lord's Taverners and MSW Competition teams. I note last season, due to injury, illness, holidays and form 19 boys played Lord Taverners for Wests for between 2 and 10 matches each, with only 4 boys playing all 10 matches.

It is hoped that the boys in the attached squad that are not selected to play in the Wests Tavs team on any particular week, play for Wests in the MSW competition. Please note however if you would prefer to play for your existing club or another club fielding a team in the MSW competition we will fully support that option and that will in no way effect your chances of being selected in the Wests Tavs team some time during the season.

Training for the squad starts Wednesday 15th August at 4:30pm (to approx. 6:30pm) at Graceville Memorial Park. Lord's Taverners and MSW Competition squad training will be every Wednesday from now up until the last Wednesday before the season finishes.

Contact details for the Tavs coach and manager are attached. Any queries regarding training, game availability , etc please contact either George or Matt.
